Akeem Brown took his first hold on the coveted National Boys Junior Title when he defeated Joshua Christie in the playoff, after both players were tied after the tournament. The playoff was held on Sunday, April 9 at the offices of the Jamaica Olympic Association. He won his first title by winning the 3rd game against his fellow St. Jago High School student Joshua Christie. This victory assured Brown a 2 1/2 - 1/2 unassailable lead thereby rendering the scheduled 4th game redundant.

WCM Adani Clarke won the 2017 National Girls Junior Title. On Sunday, April 9 at the offices of the Jamaica Olympic Association. She reclaimed her title by winning the 4th (final) game defeating Sheanel Gardner 3-1 (2 draws and 2 wins) in a Play-off held over the weekend. Both players had scored five points from seven games and tied for first in the (regular) competition.

Dates: April 8 & 9, 2017 (2 games per day at 9.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m.)
Time Control: G90 + 30s increment from move 1
Tiebreak: Should there be a tie after four games have been played there will be a two game blitz playoff (G/5). If there is still a tie there will be further G/5 games until one of the players wins a game.
