WCM Clarke Off to Annual SPF Girls' Invitational Chess Tournament

Jamaica’s number two ranked junior female player, Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Adani Clarke, left the island on Saturday (22 July), to represent Jamaica at the 14th staging of the Annual Susan Polgar Foundation (SPF) Girls' Invitational Chess Tournament.

The tournament will take place July 24 –27 at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri and will offer over US$200,000 in scholarships plus US$7,500 in cash prizes.

Also participating in the tournament is Jamaica’s number one ranked junior female player, Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Rachel Miller, who received a special invitation from Grandmaster Susan Polgar. Each US state, each Canadian Province, as well as each country on the American Continent (South, Central, and North America), is allowed to nominate one representative.

Players must have been enrolled in a school (up to 12th grade) located in the state or country they represent. The participants of the SPF Girl's Invitational do not have to be high school students (they can also be in kindergarten, elementary, or middle school too).

All qualifiers must be under the age of 19. Grandmaster Susan Polgar is a former Women’s World Champion and founder of the Susan Polgar Foundation, a non-profit organization to promote chess, with all its educational, social and competitive benefits, throughout the U.S., for young people of all ages, especially girls.
